Simply put, is there a way to earn *A miles on a carrier where you are not a member of the FF program?

I'm using Egypt Air to fly from Amman to South Africa. Other than this one trip, I doubt I will ever be on Egypt Air again, nor will I ever fly enough to earn any kind of tier status with them.

However, they are a full member of *A and I would like the trip and miles to go towards maintaining my gold status with *A.

Should I join the MS FF program just for this one trip or is there another way to earn *A status miles without doing so?

I did scan through the FAQ and didn't see it directly addressed (always possible I missed it though) so any guidance the gurus herecan offer would be appreciated.
