I suspect this maintenance is related to the new program to sell extra leg room seats. I just checked in online for a flight tomorrow and I was able to select non-ELR seats, but there was just empty space (no occupied seat, no selectable seat) in place of empty seats in the ELR sections (occupied seats showed normally).
