Very useful post, thank you very much.
Hi Hockey, sorry for the long delay in reply, was visiting PEN, decided to stay away from Internet!
On the MJ, don't do anything! That's the beauty of the gadget, why I got it and why our boys in the military love it. Any calls that you make that are to a US or Canadian number are automatically free. It's when you are calling a non-US or Canadian number that charges kick in (eg say you want to call me on my local landline in Singapore, haha!) For that you'd have to buy credits, which I know nothing about. The fact that you are in Asia (Timbuktu, anyone?) making calls should be completely irrelevant. As for the hotel phones, oops, I suspect that may not work. Depending on where you stay, if the hotel phone has all sorts of nifty features I'd bet you anything that the phone won't even have a standard jack on it. Now I do plug a standard phone into my MJ so I don't know of any alternatives directly. However I'd guess that if you had a cheap headphone with mike plugged into your notebook (or if your notebook has this built in) and dial out with MJ's softphone keypad that your problem will be solved.
My advice on the MJ: plug it into your notebook, make sure it's set up and working before you leave home. It would be incredibly irritating if you thought you had an answer in the MJ just to have it not work in your notebook, even worse if you have to find out this is the case when you're in some foreign country.
PS You're welcome!
