exception for targeted offers?

Sure you nailed it! There have been reports here indicating what a Chase CSR said: the Chase system would automatically throw out all applications if the previous application was less than 6 months ago. Chase will NOT even re-consider it although you now have a hard-pull record for the next two years.
If you have read the various threads about the Chase credit cards, you would have noticed this restriction. Chase is very tough with CC app. AMEX is around the same level. They are also well-known to have no problem with closing your cards for "unintended" use.
Read through the various threads here to get yourself familiar before jumping into these. It is fun and almost free miles, but there are things to know to protect your credit score/history.
what if I have a targeted offer in the mail? Does that make a difference?
Thanks!
