IAD-NRT was only upgauged for the winter season as a result of the seasonal cancellation of IAD-PEK. It was clear in the schedule that it would return to a 777 when IAD-PEK nonstop returns (and NRT-PEK ends), at the beginning of the 2010 summer schedule.

I am talking about the planned 2010 summer schedule which goes into effect at the very end of March. (UA 940/941 ORD-FRA doesn't upgauge until May 1st, however). So LAX-NRT won't become a 747 before your flight next week
