You never know how well mute works. I was on hold with my car dealer yesterday making a service appointment and the horrible music wasn't playing. I could very slighlty hear things going on while on hold I could clearly hear any PA annoucement including the one for service to pick up my call.
I have learned the hard way that the in-line mute switch we use with our headsets do not work as advertised.
