The first photo, of the ladder, reminded me of something I had seen or read a few years back regarding one of the sites of US H-bomb testing (I believe it was Bikini): during the tests, the detonations were surrounded by de-commisioned, or captured Japanese, warships, which were sunk by the blasts.

It's finally safe to dive those wrecks, which, for obvious reasons, are nearly completely free of crustacean coverage, making it a popular destination for divers fascinated by shipwrecks.
