IF YOU CALL, you can redeem 20 K option and then also redeem 5K for a $50 gift card and that will give you access to a flight up to $450. It saves you 5k if the price of your flight is within $50 of the level you redeem.
I just called and was told that buying/using a gift card and combining that with the points "is not an option." They told me that the entire amount must be "purchased" with points. Should I call back? Actually it probably is not even going to matter anyway - $450.90 is one fare I am looking at, so even with $50 gift card, it comes to $400.90 and I doubt they would budge on that 90 cents.
But I am still curious about the using both a gift card and flexpoints in the same transaction.
