I think it depends. For me, I often avoid mid-day flights because I don't want to be away from e-mail for an extended period of time during the middle of the work week. Adding wifi would eliminate that. I mean in general, I'd say VX is actually a pretty pleasurable flying experience. I prefer it to UA, but I stick with United because they serve way more destinations, give me upgrades, and have a much better FF program. But for someone who doesn't fly much, I can't see why flying UA would be a better option than VX, given similar pricing / times.

I agree - no need for all the AV additions like TVs, on demand video, etc as long as I have my laptop.
