If anyone got in it was either because of a lazy agent or they showed an international star alliance card and the agent just assumed you were on an int'l trip, which would grant you access.

If you read their documentation on the UA page at the Club, UA*G are clearly admitted on these itins.
It's only US *G they're supposed to deny. All other *G can get in.
If you've been denied, the agent doesn't know the rules.
