Mostly.
Since you've mentioned "mileage run" I'm going to assume that you are on a mid-level fare. Let's say it is a W. When the process runs each time (there are 6 EUA runs on the computer and then the GA processes it based on the list you see) it reviews all the currently booked passengers on the flight and processes the EUA up to the number of seats in the R fare bucket. The order in which the R seats are assigned is:
- Waitlisted Mileage Upgrades
- Y Fares, by elite status
- B Fares, by elite status
- All Platinum elites, in order of fare and then purchase time
- All Gold elites, in order of fare and then purchase time
- All Silver elites, in order of fare and then purchase time
It is worth noting that the Golds are only included in cycles 3-6 and Silvers in cycles 5-6.
So as a gold on a W fare you are behind all elites on Y or B fares, Mileage upgraders and all golds on higher fares, plus any golds on a W who purchased prior to you. The system prioritizes all the passengers on the plane and then processes as many as necessary to use up all the available seats in the R bucket.
Make sense?
