The reason there's spaces at the moment is a majority of civilised people don't park in spaces they're not entitled to use.
I'm sure the extra 100 yards walk might do you some good in the long run.
Actually, I do always park away from the entrance, preferably in a less-used area, as that hopefully avoids some ignoramus parking next to me and denting my door when he throws his door open.
