If he only needed a single extra IC stay to gain RA renewal, I think it'd be absolutely foolish not to do it. 10k bonus points (5k cert + trade BOGO) + RA referral cert makes this absolutely worthwhile, even if the "unnecessary" night is at an expensive IC. Plus, travel patterns may change; you never know, how many ICs you'll be staying at during the next year.
