I have tuned and tweaked the anti-FT stupidity manifesto.
Please re-read the Delta forum warning and then compare and contrast to what I humbly submit as a CO Forum-appropriate adaptation of said warning.
(DISCLAIMER: The below is meant in jest, but feel free to take it seriously.)
================================================== ===============
Dear Continental Forum FlyerTalk members,
There has been a significant increase in animosity and acrimony, a marked spike in general stupidity, and a huge increase in pointless threads and thread titles resulting in a shift in the overall tone and feel of the Continental Forum. In some cases, this negative tone is a factor that has contributed to some FlyerTalk members deciding to combat the rise in stupidity and poor attitudes with equal amounts of bitter sarcasm and the removal of certain brain-to-keyboard filters, along with a stated lack of participation in the Continental Forum.
The stupidity and markedly poor attitudes that have become prevalent in the Continental Forum are becoming constant rather than occasional. If the Continental Forum were asked to take a survey that identified the ethnicity of the posting base, the identity group that would show the largest gain in representation would not be one of race or nationality. It would be “Troll”. The same messages, facts and opinions continue to be opined, many of which are mean-spirited and unfairly cynical. There also seems to be a penchant as of late for posters wanting to cling to the sinking ship of their incorrect information regarding CO and OnePass. If you are proven incorrect by some reasonable and generally accepted means, please consider promptly performing what Gen. Dwight Eisenhower referred to as "a tactical advance to the rear". Being wrong and admitting it is a sign of being a mature adult human being. Somehow I doubt all these folks who travel for business are really teenagers that have not yet reached the Age of Reason. Perception is a powerful tool, and there are numerous posters who seem to squeeze in their Monday to Thursday traveling jobs between glee club practice and passing notes in study hall.
People are welcome to debate the issues, as long as they listen to what the other person has to say and respond in kind. Promoting what appears to be an agenda filled with rhetoric, vitriol and propaganda is just as unwelcome in the CO Forum as is the inane oversupply of EWR weather threads. Posters are jumping to conclusions without looking to see if there is a mattress at the bottom of the gorge. Depending on who is jumping, this could be a welcomed practice. Putting words in the mouths of other FlyerTalk members is happening with alarming frequency, and posting of accusations and personal attacks seem to be the new normal. This goes for everyone on all sides of the issues.
In other words, play nice, or do not play at all.
It is understandable that increased tension is currently present in the Continental Forum as a result of the migration of Continental to Star Alliance, as well as the Forum experiencing runoff from the poisoned septic tank that is the United Forum. Some official policies of Continental Airlines can also lead to stress and the need to dump large steaming cauldrons of angry rhetoric on random people, especially if you have recently missed a companion upgrade. However, that is not an excuse to attempt to unnecessarily denigrate fellow FlyerTalk members, nor is it an excuse to transform the user experience of the Continental forum from a place to come for help and answers with the occasional dose of fun into the inside of the primate exhibit at your local zoo.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Regards,
ConciergeMike
