Hyatt explicitly looks at # of stays when considering a match.

In SPG's case I am not completely certain though I suspect if you are a legit Hilton Diamond, by spend rather than by stays, that it'll work. Please report back your results!

Also if I wait until July 2010 to try and get the match - if accepted when would it expire ?
An SPG match requested in MARCH 2010 will last until February 2012. Same with a request in July 2010.
