There was a very heated discussion about this on the TG board a while back.
While tipping is not expected, I usually give a hundred Baht, or about $3 for a full-hour massage in Thailand.
There was one FT member who reported giving over 500 baht for a tip, and he was thoroughly lambasted by the forum for raising expectations too high. I believe it was
Spiff who remarked that the TG spa girls are paid about 200-300 baht a day, so large tips are greatly out of sync with their wages.
The bottom line is that in Thailand, a heartfelt "thank you" works just as well as a monetary tip.
BTW
HIDDY, great report on the TG flight. It pretty much mirrors my TG F flight to FRA a few months ago, except for the 350 pound German chap across the aisle who paid to upgrade his 350 pound friend, who sat on the ottoman drinking beer and arguing loudly with him across Asia.
But the Dom made everything all right. As it usually does in copious amounts.
Cheers.
