I have my global entry intervierw at LAX last month and at first was given a CBP sticker, and then told that because I was not yet approved, I could not keep the sticker, and would be contacted after approval about how to get a sticker.

Much to my shock (i.e. the interview was ugly to say the least) the GOES web site today says I am approved for Global Entry. The letter says I "can begin using the program immediately". With a return flight into ORD in August I would love to but don't have a sticker.

I have a long layover in ORD in July on the outbound and have to leave the sterile area to connect on a flight in the international terminal. Can I get the sticker at the CBP office in ORD then?

Or when I return to the USA, after using the Global Entry kiosk, can I get the sticker before encountering customs?

Or should I take the letter at its word and not worry about the sticker?

If it matters I am a permanent resident, non-U.S. citizen. In my case, the sticker would go on my green card.

I've used GlobalEntry at ORD quite a few times, and I've never been asked to show my sticker. Nor at JFK. (Perhaps ATL is more strict.)

I was in exactly your situation, and I picked up my GlobalEntry sticker at JFK with no problem. I simply walked in, explained that I was already an approved member, and the guy gave me a sticker (and an extra one for my new passport when I renew it in 2012).
