i suspect that with the popularity of electronic news media, fewer and fewer people people (especially business travelers) have any desire to get an actual newspaper.
i generally see them stacked on a table near the elevators on every floor, which makes sense to me. it's a short walk to get one and and those who actually want a newspaper can get one. this generates less waste and in a large hotel probably saves hundreds of $$$s a day. that adds up, especially for an amenity that increasingly fewer people desire. personally i am glad to not get one.
the availability of newspapers in hotels is a reflection of the decline of print newsmedia in general. the detroit news and detroit free press recently abandoned home delivery entirely, except for weekend editions.
i guess newspapers are becoming old fashioned
