That could well be what happened. However, BD gave me the miles when I asked; they could have been doing me a favo(u)r, but I tend to doubt it. Also, there is AFAIK no way whatsoever to find out what class LX will ultimately book you into when you buy a ticket; it seems patently unfair to base credit on something you can't possibly know. (Asking the check-in agent might work, but at that point it's too late to do anything about it if you don't like the answer. Asking UA probably won't work; in my experience it's not something their phone agents would know. Online it's definitely not possible, at least through standard passenger-oriented booking sites.)
