If you don't split the record, then you run the risk of neither person getting the upgrade. I always split around 6-7 days out so we can get 1 seat up front and then I add her to the upgrade list when we arrive at the airport.

I would think your chances are pretty good. Just keep your fingers crossed that 772 delays don't result in a last minute equipment swap.
