The american indian museum has some great exhibits, and special events are usually interesting as well. You've got to look at this one differently than your typical museum, and also take advantage of the docents, who do a great job of explaining the exhibits.
it also has the best cafeteria on the Mall. We wander over for lunch once or twice a month.

You could easily fill a week in DC and still have stuff to come back and see.
