I agree and have had these concerns for some time about gate searches and, to a lesser degree, secondary searches when the technology such as ETD is out there but not being deployed and/or used.

As for your second paragraph, I do know about those cases. What would be interesting is a case in which the secondary search was solely based on being "random."
