Using Award Points Could Be Best

As someone who was once stuck in a similar situation (moved to Paris and kept being stuck with return tickets to North America), I would note that Flying Blue offers decent points deals on one-way trips, where your ticket costs literally 50% of the points of return tickets. Apparently Aeroplan is starting the same service as of April 30 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-c...ic-awards.html )

It might be worth your while to have a friend book the tickets one way on points, and you reimburse them the fair value.

And given how angry FB'ers (such as myself) are these days with the April 1 changes, you can probably get the points from them relatively cheaply...!
