Typically, though, when people have sent me a message with either a picture or video, AT&T sends a message with a link to a website and a code to view the files. Perhaps you should get in touch with AT&T support and find out why you aren't getting that.
Oh, and of course, make sure your friend is sending it to the correct number.

I assumed as you stated, I should at least get a message telling me I have a text that iphone can't open. I'll call AT&T today.
Make sure also that your friend is inputting all 10 digits of the phone number including the area code rather than the 7 digit local number. Otherwise, as
Wainright said, I get a text with a website and a code. It's a very clunky workaround and I'm looking forward to the next update to resolve the MMS issue.
