AFAIK, the cap of 500 search results from any search has been there for years. (Of course, it's possible that, intermittently, during periods of experimentation by the programming team, the cap has been changed.

It's (normally) possible to work around the 500 limit by refining the search. (For example, you can look for all posts by a particular user in a particular forum, and/or with other qualifiers.)
