I hate to join in with the doom and gloom, but I agree with everyone else here. Don't look for US to do you any favors.

In 2006 I flew to see my Brother and the day I landed we went ATV'ing and I broke my leg. Once I got out of the hospital after having my leg set, I called the US CP Desk to see if they would change my flight so I could get home and suffer in my own bed, but I got the standard response...reprice the fare plus a $150 change fee. I called WN and bought a one-way ticket home for less than what the change in fare and change fee would have cost me.

That $200 bucks in unflown revenue I let US have was pure profit for them, but at the cost of goodwill and reputation. That was the start of the end for me and US. Unfortunately it took me another 2 years to realize they didn't appreciate me as a customer.

One poster above mentions the fact that this airline sells full fare changeable tickets for an additional cost and I agree that when buying a ticket under those circumstances, you should pay if you elect to change your plans. BUT I truly feel there are some instances when changes should be allowed (due to emergencies) and it should be a common courtesy to allow those changes to occur with no additional fee.
