United, US and LH are all Star Alliance, so you could collect in either programme. You can also use Emirates Miles (Skywards) on United, but I don't know about the details, am sure others will know better...

I am currently in Afghanistan and I transit in and out of Dubai (which is why I have Emirates). I am wanting to accrue miles for something when I eventually leave here. My main airport in the states is PIT. Right now I am looking at getting a ticket through united. I know united has ties with both Emirates and US Airways. Should I just become a member with United and fly all 3 under a United number? I guess I could just cash in on the Emirates for an upgrade and maybe the same with US Airways.
I just want something to stick with once and for all.
