Yes, the poster could be covering his IP tracks. Then again, this may indeed be a bogus scare tactic foisted by one of the airlines.

As for contacting a lawyer, you may be right. But I don't think any lawyer who posts on this board would say that -- not out of greed or trying to drum up business for the profession -- but for fear of getting sued if he gives online "legal advice" to forget about it, and then the roof falls in.
