For the record, since this is the first google hit on the error I ran into.
Hold down left-ctrl, left-shift, and click cancel. This will acknowledge the error, but force the installation to continue.

EDIT: Bad suggestion from me - Don't try this one:
Another suggestion is to right click on the install package, click the compatibility tab, then choose to run in 640x480 mode.
