Don't accumulate FF miles on AeroMexico. I transferred 80,000 miles from american express rewards to AeroMexico for 2 from Mexico City to Santiago. The miles transferred fine and space was available but I got socked with a $502 charge on each ticket. On questioning, it was explained that $76 was the taxes and the $400+ was a fuel surcharge. Agreed; AeroMexico miles become useless, both domestic and on their international routes, once the fuel surcharge has been included.
Too bad you can't use LAN for that route as LAN does not have surcharges and have a great product.
