Hi Delta folks, I'm a UA type so not too familiar with DL policies. I have looked at the FAQs but this question wasnt apparent.

So I have two friends flying DL from BWI-ATL-CCS tomorrow night on their honeymoon. They have 2 K class fares. No seat assignment on the ATL-CCS leg (none avail). What are their chances and/or best strategies for an updgrade?

They are new members of SkyMiles (not elites but I advised them to sign up and they have).

On UA, this would be a long shot, I would suggest they make a sweet speech about how they are on their honeymoon and maybe they get an op-up due to the apparent oversell.

I think the thing going for them is that the flight appears to be oversold as they cant get a seat assignment but realize its a long shot. Any advice appreciated. thanks.
