OK, there are many tech experts here... new HP desktop connected to a 22 inch monitor via HDMI cable. There are built in speakers on the monitor and so far, I haven't gotten a sound out of them. Originally connected to the computer with the green speaker cable that came with the monitor. I wonder what the documentation with the computer said about the speaker connections, and/or the monitor documentation. Also, if the monitor is capable of handling audio on the hdmi cable, what type of audio stream it's capable of decoding.
Depending on the graphics device, and how they wired it internally, there may or may not be audio available on the hdmi cable.
The green audio cable should have worked, but you may have needed to configure the speakers on the PC to get the right output turned on. I think it's usually done through the "sound and audio" control panel. You should probably take a look at that, as that's where any audio-related options would be anyway.
