Another possibility would be to take a train to Phuket. KVS Tool is showing quite a few flights on 28 Nov to HKG, some via other points such as KUL or TPE, others are direct flights. (Flights from CNX all appear to go via BKK so that's not an option.) Apparently, to get from Bangkok to Phuket you take an overnight train to Surat Thani, then you take a bus to Phuket. Obviously all this is less the ideal, but if you need to get out of Thailand right now, this might be a way to do it.
This page describes train travel to Malaysia and Singapore. I'll see if I can find something a little more "official" though.
Anyone know the safety of traveling these trains? I wasn't planning traveling on train like a backpacker, and have a number of valuables that I am carrying - and have purchased some heavy souvenirs.

I think you can expect rail and bus service to be halted soon. If in country find a place to sit it out.
Also interested in your source, my understanding is that PAD has their least amount of support in Chiang Mai.
