The latter, by far. With the former I have to buy a Y fare and hope for the upgrade. Otherwise I'm stuck with a very expensive coach seat. With the latter if I'm stuck in Y at least I didn't overpay for the luxury.

Good, then I guess y'all agree that the co-pay system is actually a pretty good one when compared with the alternative...
It's unfortunate SkyTeam went with the alternative for this particular program. Perhaps intra-carrier co-pays would just be too complicated to process.
