Spring 2005, at the international campus closer to Ichigaya, through the CIEE program. Stayed with a host family in Nakano-ku, which made for less than a ten minute train ride in--usually took the rapid to Yotsuya and walked the rest of the way.

Went back this summer for the first time since then. I was at Nakano station when they started playing the ドアが閉まります "tune" and something snapped in my head. I realized then the extent to which people there are "trained" to react automatically to these tunes.
