While agree that the distance between seats is important, the width and number per row really make a difference with a great coach class seat or a bad first class one.

A bad first class is going to be wider and there is only going to be one person next to me (window seat). I do agree with the OPs that the legroom in a bad first class seat is worse than an exit row in coach.
