Although it's much more rare than other airlines, there are at least two ways that AA currently does status matching, both of which have been documented here on FT numerous times:
1) For Merrill+ cardholders at the +2 level ($20k/year spend), a documented benefit is AA status matching.
2) For some large companies with corporate travel desks, AA allows the travel coordinators to extend status to a limited number of employees.
