Depending on where the hotel is, he might be able to get off before the bus reaches Alexanderplatz. It does go round the houses a bit! But to be honest public transport in Berlin is pretty easy to navigate and I am sure you can check on the BVG website in advance: http://www.bvg.de/index.php/en/Bvg/Start
