In all fairness, he's a Plat, so comparing to another carrier's mid-tier isn't exactlyt he same. This experience sounds very similar to the UA 1K baggage resolution desk.
I took a VDB DEN-SFO and went DEN-OAK instead, filled out a claim in OAK, they called the next morning with an ETA, delivered the bag, then 1K called back to make sure everything was in order.
Very comparable to the OP's experience as CO Plat.
