Will be spending a total of 7 days in SIN in near future on each end of a trip to Australia. Is it possible to locally rent cell phone for incoming emergency calls only from US (in other words, per minute costs not a factor)? If so, are they easily available at airport or shopping malls?

Second, do 4-5 star hotels have plug converters for US small items like notebooks, etc? No transformer needed, just plugs. Or, should I purchase before leaving US at Radio shack, etc.?

Thanks. This is not a trip I'll be repeating with any frequency so am not interested in purchasing these types of equipment if it isn't necessary.
