you may want to check if your credit card includes any travel insurance against unforseen medical conditions? Otherwise, I think you may have to pay the change fee. Or, if it is within your level of tolerance, you could wait until closer to your scheduled flight date, and hope for a schedule change that allows you to change without penalty.
