AA check-in counter lines at DFW rarely get very long compared to other hubs, I guess because there are so many counters (8? 10?) spread out across 4 terminals. I rarely check bags, and I use the elite line when I do, but it seems that when I've passed by the counters after 8pm, there's rarely anyone queued up.
Where you might have a problem is if there is weather and associated cancellations/delays. After 7 pm, they staff fairly light so if there are cancellations needing agent help, the lines can back up.
If you are cutting it close to the 45 minute window, I'd go downstairs to the curbside check-in vs. trying to wait in line. Trust me (I've learned more than once) they will not waive the bag minimum time.
