My experience has been different. If I have a car > 2 hours, the daily rate is cheaper than the hourly rate. So if I have a car for 1 day, 3 hours, it's a 2 day rental. If I have it for 4 days, 3 hours, it's 5 days (or a week by Avis' count). I've used coupons in the past like this & haven't had a problem.
