Listing an item for sale indicates a plan to breach the program's terms, and CO can't tell if anyone emailed you to buy what was offered.
One would hope that CO will be reasonable, and that the OP can work this out if they have done no wrong. We are jumping to conclusions about CO's response, as it is not yet known.
Had it been AA , they would let the transaction go thru! they would monitor the acct and would see say that Mrs ABC withdraw 25k for a free tkt for Mr XYZ, they would have all the info when Mr XYZ will be flying and would either wait till he checks in at the counter or arrives at the gate and hands the BP over in order to board when he will be approached and taken aside, this would happen either on the Outbound or the return. AA is very good at this and is known to have pulled it off Numerous times.
Of cause only an Idiot would say I listed it just to see what it was worth but had no plans to sell it. Theyd probably simply say, it wasnt me, someone got my info and put it up there hoping that Id get busted and lose everything. Of cause only a dummy would use their reg email address and not create a new one that had nothing to do with any of their reg ones.
I simply feel that CO shouldnt close any acct up unless they knew 1000% for sure that the ad was placed in fact by the owner of the miles. The only way to know this is to let the transaction go thru amd watch the acct to see what if anything happens. since there are some $$ due for taxes or other fees CO will have a way to track the payment and who made it, so if its the sellers CC that was used they be hard pressed to explain how they knew nothin about the selling of the miles. Thats why AA doesnt run into this problem they caught everyone with the hands in the cookie jar and theres nothing that can be said except to admitt the truth and beg AA for forgiveness. Also that way AA knows the seller wont be doing it again and will remain a customer. COs way they lost a customer.
To AA ^^ to CO ways
