Unusual, but not unheard of. I remember a story of some pilots in Ukraine (Ukrainian Int'l Airlines), testing a "new" second-hand B737, from Lufthansa (not 100% sure of the airline). They had a few airline reps on board, including pilots. Somehow they ended up cutting off both engines. They were flying pretty low, so restarting was not an option. They managed to glide in safely. If I recall correctly, these pilots were test pilots that worked on Antonov heavy lifters, so it doesn't surprise me that they did what they did.
