It was once only available on draft but the
Russian River Brewing Co. started bottling
Pliny the Elder after opening a larger brewery earlier this year.
Pliny the Younger is still draft-only.
If you like hops, these beers are very much worth seeking out. But either
Pliny (the
Elder is a "Double IPA"; the
Younger is a "Triple IPA") is a highly alcoholic hop monster. If someone's not ready for a big, big beer that is tongue-bucklingly bitter, they might be overwhelmed. I can say from personal experience that even the creator and brewer of
Pliny the Elder usually finds it sufficient to share a bottle rather than opening one for each person at the table.
