United Just Made Summer Vacation a Little Cheaper

There’s no better time to cultivate your love for travel than while in college. Lucky you, United Airlines is running a special promotion for young adults looking to save money on trips.

If you’re between ages 18 and 22 at the time of booking and are a member of the MileagePlus loyalty program, you can receive a discount of up to 10% on paid fares booked by Dec. 31 (later travel is possible).

Of course, as with any promo, you must meet certain requirements.

  • Travel must be booked through United’s mobile app (available for iOS and Android).
  • Your personal information on the MileagePlus account must include your date of birth.
  • You must travel solo (or at least book for one flyer at a time).
  • Discounts are limited to certain destinations, such as the United States, Canada and Mexico, plus “certain international destinations,” which haven’t been clarified.

Additionally, United is willing to offset carbon footprint and compensate for emissions on the first 25,000 flights purchased as part of this promotion.

This promo is quite intriguing. Sure, it’s not a huge discount, but it certainly helps save a little cash. As a young adult, you can book a flight and travel either solo or with a group of friends who meet all the requirements to away college football games, cities with amazing nightlife or, perhaps, outdoors destinations with hiking, skiing or mountain biking.

Keep in mind that only basic economy or regular coach tickets qualify for the promo. Be careful of basic economy fares, though. United charges for carry-on luggage on basic economy tickets, which means that even a weekend getaway will incur luggage fees unless you can fit everything you need in backpack small enough to fit under a seat in front of you. Seat selection fees may also apply.

Does United’s new promo sound appealing to you?
