British Airways Staff Shortage Causes Chaos

British Airways passengers faced a two-hour delay just to check their luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) after just four staff members checked in over 249 passengers onto Flight 0178. Two staff members were tasked with serving passengers travelling Club World, and the other two processed the majority of the passengers, who were traveling economy.

One passenger commented “We kept asking the desk staff what was going on and we were told that British Airways had cancelled overtime globally and so there weren’t enough staff to check customers in. There wasn’t even a supervisor around, just overworked check-in staff.” A British Airways spokesperson apologized for the situation, saying “A lot of planning goes into making sure we have the right number of staff available for our customers on any given day. We are sorry that some customers have faced difficulties this morning at JFK Airport and we’re working to resolve the situation as soon as possible.”

Something wrong at BA's JFK station. Another reason not to fly this carrier.
