Delta Opens A Pop-Up Lounge for Middle-Seat Passengers at Boston Airport
Finally, the passengers seated in the middle seat of an airplane got to enjoy a little more than two armrests. For a limited-time, Delta Air Lines opened a pop-up lounge at Logan International Airport specifically for those flying in the middle.
For one day, passengers who held a boarding pass for the dreadful seat between two other chairs could visit a lounge before departure from Boston’s airport. The Middle Seat Lounge, sponsored by both Delta and Coca-Cola, offered passengers a place to relax before their flight, play board games with fellow travelers and take a three-pack of Coke bottles to share with passengers seated in the same row.
A former NBA player Brian Scalabrine made an appearance in the Middle Seat Lounge.
“When the Mamba flies he’s always in the middle. And thanks to @delta + @cocacola and the #middleseatlounge I’ve got the best seat in the house!” Scalabrine tweeted from the lounge.

Passengers who take a selfie with their seatmates on the plane and upload it to either Twitter or Instagram using hashtags #ShareaCoke and #MiddleSeatLoungeSweeps by May 22 at 11:59 p.m. EST will have a chance to win a Delta travel voucher. In turn, the traveler’s seatmates also can upload a photo with a hashtag #MiddleSeatBuddySweeps for their own chance to win a flight certificate. For more details on the sweepstakes, head here.
Personally, I like the idea of royal treatment for the poor unfortunate souls stuck in the middle. They deserve some love, and the temporary lounge seems to have been a fun way to show appreciation for travelers who endure short- and long-haul flights in the undesirable seats. Hopefully, Delta and Coca-Cola’s initiative put a smile or two on someone’s face and made those seats suck a little less.
