Delta Flight Museum Grand Opening on 85th Anniversary of Delta Air Lines

June 17, 2014 by Brian Cohen

Starting a few years earlier in Macon, Georgia as an aerial crop dusting operation known as Huff Daland Dusters, Delta Air Service commenced operations on June 17, 1929 in Monroe, Louisiana...and 85 years later, the anniversary of what is now known as Delta Air Lines was celebrated with the grand opening of the Delta Flight Museum — which, technically, is the grand re-opening of the Delta Heritage Museum. The Delta Flight Museum underwent extensive renovations. I actually co-hosted one of the last events at the former Delta Heritage Museum before...

A Potentially Dangerous Joke By an Air Traffic Controller?

June 13, 2014 by Brian Cohen

If this story is accurate, then it is one of the most moronic actions I have heard related to commercial aviation. The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States is investigating what is being called “a potentially dangerous prank” which an air traffic controller allegedly played on the pilots of a Boeing 777-200 aircraft filled with passengers...

June 13, 2014 by Brian Cohen

MileagePlus Program to Change Based on Revenue Instead of Miles for 2015

June 10, 2014 by Brian Cohen

Effective as of March 1, 2015, the MileagePlus frequent flier loyalty program will change to base rewards on the airfares paid by customers of United Airines rather than the miles — more accurately, “butt-in-seat” miles — being traveled. This was expected and definitely no surprise, as similar changes occurred with the SkyMiles frequent flier loyalty program by Delta Air Lines as announced on February 26, 2014. Members of the MileagePlus frequent flier loyalty program can earn anywhere from five to as many as eleven MileagePlus miles per United States dollar paid for the base airfare and surcharges imposed by the airline, depending on your Premier elite status level...

Assorted jetBlue Woes Posted on FlyerTalk

June 15, 2014 by Brian Cohen

The first half of June 2014 for jetBlue Airways reminds me of that week of mishaps suffered by El Al Israel Airlines Limited last month. One look at the JetBlue | TrueBlue forum today revealed several discussions by FlyerTalk members actively talking about some unfortunate and strange incidents which occurred recently on flights operated by jetBlue Airways — and I am not even including at least a couple of unfortunate incidents from last month. Here is a list of those discussions in no specific order...

Kimpton InTouch Inner Circle: “Stealth Devaluation?”

June 13, 2014 by Brian Cohen

“Has anyone noticed a dramatic drop in availability for award night redemptions?” asked FlyerTalk member woodyDCA with regard to the Kimpton Hotels InTouch frequent guest loyalty program — specifically as an Inner Circle member. “Over the last few months, I have been stymied in all attempts to book weekend redemptions, with only mid-week off-peak redemptions available.” In addition to “the sudden difficulty in redeeming free night rewards” noticed over the past six to eight months by woodyDCA, there has...

June 9, 2014 by Brian Cohen

If you are traveling as a passenger on aircraft operated by Aer Lingus on Monday, June 16, 2014 or Wednesday, June 18, 2014, you may want to keep yourself updated as to the status of your flights. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union — or IMPACT, which is the union representing the flight crews of Aer Lingus — threatened to go on strike after three days of talks failed with management this past Friday evening, as management supposedly had refused to...
